The new TS9000 replaces the T980AP. It features greater accuracy and runs from and is powered by a USB port. No power adaptor or mobile power cable is required, making World wide use possible.

The unit samples the Multiplex signal at 240KHz at 12bits precision. This data is passed via the USB cable to the PC, where all measurements and calculations are performed in software. The T980AP was sampled at 8bits, with analogue computation.

Modulation Power measurement is now calculated with 32bit floating point precision

Basic measurements:

bulletDeviation +ve and -ve
bulletModulation power
bulletPilot 19KHZ
bulletRDS carrier 57KHz
bulletSignal Strength
bulletMultipath

Multiplex signal accuracy:

A wider 280KHz bandwidth and a new LC IF equalization circuit provide a much ‘flatter’ frequency response: A 5 pole Butterworth filter provides out of band suppression.

bullet20Hz to 80KHz < -0.25dB
bullet100KHz < -0.4dB
bullet200KHz > -65dB

Deviation accuracy:

0 to 75KHz  < +/-1.5% (1KHz test sinusoid)

Spectrum Analyser:

The software includes a FFT Spectrum Analyser covering 0.1Hz to 100KHz with a range >90dB

This can be used to inspect the Multiplex signal or can be used as a stand alone audio analyser using the external BNC input. This also has a software selectable 20dB pre-amplifier, increasing the effective range to >110dB. Various sample windows can be applied i.e. Hanning, Hamming, Blackman-Harris etc, providing a versatile measurement instrument. See picture below for spectrum analyser set showing 0.1Hz to 70KHz of the FM multiplex signal:

Oscilloscope:

The Multiplex signal can be viewed in the time domain with an oscilloscope type display. The timebase can be set from 10ms/div to 10us/div. The Y-axis has a x10 function. The trigger point can be user set or automatic.  The picture below shows typical trace with positive and negative deviation bar graphs. These can be arithmetically rectified to give absolute readings.

Antenna attenuator:

Software switched -10dB, -20dB and -30dB

Band switching:

Wideband 280KHz for multiplex measurements

Narrowband 230KHz for signal strength scanning

THD and SNR:

Total harmonic distortion is typically 0.2%, with a signal-to-noise >80dB

Left and Right channel monitoring:

The low impedance XLR balanced outputs, will drive line or 8 ohm loudspeakers at 0.4watts/channel for audio monitoring.

Signal connectors:

bulletBNC Antenna input 50ohms
bulletBNC IF input at 10.7MHz
bulletBNC Analyser input 15K 0dBm (Multiplex in or Spectrum analyser)
bulletBNC Multiplex output 50ohms 0dBm at 75KHz
bulletXLR Audio left and right, balanced. Line or loudspeaker.
bulletJack Headphone or sound card
bulletUSB 1.1

System requirements:

bulletTS9000 software runs under Windows98/2, Me, 2000 and XP.
bulletMinimum usable system: Windows98/2 running on a 300MHz Pentium/Athlon
bulletRecommended system: Windows2000/XP 800MHz Pentium/Athlon
bulletA fast graphics card is also recommended as this provides for a fast update of the Spectrum Analyser and Oscilloscope traces.
